Quick answers
What should I do first when a pipe bursts?
Answer: Shut off the main water valve, turn off power to wet areas if it's safe, and take photos. Then call 844-933-9050 or use the form on this page.
How do I know if a crawlspace pipe burst?
Answer: Signs include a sudden drop in water pressure, the water meter still spinning with every tap off, a sound of running water under the floor, damp or cupping floors, and a musty smell. Shut off the main and have the crawlspace checked.
Who fixes the pipe?
Answer: A plumber repairs the line. A restoration company pumps out water, removes wet insulation and vapor barrier if needed, and dries the crawlspace.
How we choose partner companies
What we check
We only send requests to companies that work in the Treasure Valley. We ask each one for its license or registration (where the state requires it) and proof of insurance. We do not do the work, and we can't promise how a job turns out.
Check them yourself
Before you sign anything, look up the company's license and ask for proof of insurance.
- Idaho DOPL license and registration lookup
- IICRC certified firm locator (ask if the crew is certified)

Crawlspaces and frozen pipes
Across Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell and Eagle, many homes are built over crawlspaces instead of basements. Supply lines run through that space, and when foundation vents are left open in winter, cold air reaches the pipes. A split line can soak the vapor barrier and insulation and raise humidity under the whole house.
Pipes in exterior walls, unheated garages and attics also freeze during Treasure Valley cold snaps, and sprinkler lines that weren't blown out in the fall can crack and leak.
What crawlspace water cleanup involves
- Stop the water. Close the main valve.
- Inspect. The crew checks the crawlspace, the subfloor and the walls above with moisture meters.
- Extract. Standing water is pumped out. Soaked insulation and torn or flooded vapor barrier are removed as needed.
- Dry. Dehumidifiers and air movers dry the soil surface, framing and subfloor, with readings until levels are normal.
- Restore. Insulation and vapor barrier are replaced and any damaged flooring above is repaired. Many companies work with your adjuster.
Help prevent frozen pipes
- Close or cover foundation vents for winter if your home's design allows it, and reopen them in spring.
- Insulate exposed crawlspace pipes and check for gaps in insulation.
- Disconnect hoses and blow out sprinkler lines before the first freeze.
- Open cabinet doors on exterior walls on very cold nights.
- Keep the heat on when you're away.
Frequently asked questions
Does homeowners insurance cover a burst pipe in Idaho?
Most homeowners policies cover sudden, accidental water damage from a burst pipe. Long-term leaks and some freezing situations may be excluded. Your policy and adjuster decide what is covered.
Can a wet crawlspace cause mold?
Yes. Wet insulation, framing and subfloor in a closed crawlspace can grow mold if they aren't dried. A musty smell in the house is a common sign.
Do I need to replace crawlspace insulation after a leak?
Often, yes. Fiberglass batts that got soaked usually sag and hold moisture against the subfloor. The restoration company will tell you what can stay and what should come out.
Is this service free?
Yes. Connecting with a restoration company through Treasure Valley Water Restoration is free for homeowners. Participating companies pay us for referrals.
